There's a real emotional heart to Keane's music, that rare something in a performer to actually connect with. Her classical piano structures call Tori Amos to mind, but the Keane image and outlook are far less in the 'kooky' mould.
Her songs sit nicely into the romance genre, but are not afraid to delve into difficult waters - she's a kind of left-of-centre Dido, producing songs with clever riffs and lyrical hooks that dare to talk about the darker side of the psyche and humanity, yet never trash around in turgid waters
